Kheerganga - Where magic happens!

Of dreamy evenings and mellow sunsets

I always dreamed of a place where I could hear nothing but the silence of nature. And I often wondered if such place would really exist. I started researching about places in Himachal endlessly for months. And my quest finally stopped at a place called - Kheerganga.

Nestled in the lap of Parvati Valley, Kheerganga is a hidden gem.

It was the last destination of my trip back in April 2016. Descending down from Tosh, we started the long trek to Kheerganga. And there in front of my eyes was a small tiny hamlet tucked in the mountains which was way too beautiful to miss. After inquiring about the place, we decided to visit the village of Kalga before heading to Kheerganga.

Kalga is a small village tucked in the Parvati Valley with a mere population of 200 people. All I could see in front of my eyes were the tall pine trees, small wooden houses, sunlight peeking in through the trees, the mighty Parvati river and the happiest faces of the people I had ever seen. We left out extra luggage at Kalga and  continued on the trail to Kheerganga.
Kalga - The quaint little hamlet
The path was extremely beautiful, covered with tall trees and enticing waterfalls. We continued our hike for 3 hours and were extremely tired. Soon, we were accompanied by a group of backpackers who were coming from Israel to see the Himachal. Hearing to their stories we moved ahead.
I had never seen so much Green in my entire life.

Dreamy Waterfalls

A few steps ahead and we were welcomed by one of the most beautiful waterfalls here and a cafe next to it. The roaring sound of water falling from height was enough to give me peace. I was happy and it all suddenly felt right. To be there, in that moment.

Dreamy Waterfall. Who wouldn't like to stay here?
Sunset was an hour away, when we moved on for the final path to our destination. Walking through the dense patches of forests, we finally reached a point where the magic happened. It was about time for sunset as I saw the golden light peeking through the tall trees and the winds blowing faster. I knew, I was there and the magic show had just begun.
Walking a few steps further, I witnessed the place of my dreams presenting before me in the most magical way ever. I was truly speechless. The golden light peeking through the tall trees and decorating the rooftops, the endless green pastures protected by the mighty mountains and the pure smell of air was enough to make me happy. For the first time in my life, I truly realized how it feels to be alive in the moment.

Golden Hour - Where magic happens.

The temperature was already getting down and cold. It was about seven in the evening when we reached the hot water springs. Without thinking twice, we took a dip into the springs and what happened next was beyond any words I could express. The sheer feeling of sitting in the hot water springs on a cold chilly evening while looking at the tall snow cladded peaks was beyond bliss. I was happy for no reason.
The Holy hot water springs
Witnessing the small things like seeing the contrail of the jet planes leaving behind or the shephard taking a herd of sheeps felt extremely satisfying and huge. It taught me one of the most important lessons of life: Sometimes the smallest things take up most of the room in your heart.
This was the view from the place I stayed in for 50 bucks. Beat that!

Morning full of happiness
I left the place with no sorrows in my soul as I had realized that magic has always existed in nature. There is something that happens within you when you witness such beautiful landscapes. The perfect mellow sun setting down in the lap of Parvati valley is nothing but a magic show which nature offers you. And the best part is, it's priceless.

Until next time,
Ashish
