asia: evolving to shopaholic dumpsters?
[a shabby entry from the diva]
I did my usual magazine routine after I took my chinese clustered meal at Man Hann. I bought my usuals [which is comprised of fashion magazines, etc.] and payed to the nearest counter. I wasn't surprised to find out that I had spent almost 5oo for four magazines since this is one splurge I consider therapy when I am stuck in boredom world. Although I don't buy those oh-so latest expensive tabloid magazine it had always been an unwritten rule in my monthly trips to exercise my mind and read a few substantial news from Time and Newsweek. What a goodie that Time's isssue this month comes with a free Style and Design supplement which is free since it's usual price was still retained. I was so jiggly that I opted reading it first amongst other newly bought magazines. Oh- the smell of freshly opened magazine. I browse then read, browse again...this continued on until the episode of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy ended but there was this certain portion of the issue that really caught my attention. It was about a shopping trip in Dubai with two young-although not single- working women and how they spend their well earned cash at malls. Sounds cliche? It wasn't their rants that got my attention it was the ever flowing names of famous and expensive designers that the writer continually mentioned. It seemed that this little country in the middle east where women are expected to keep their bodies parts covered
in veils are experiencing fashion mayhem unlike any other nations in Asia. According to Time, Dubai is currently building the largest shopping center in the whole world- named The Dubai Mall. When the interviwer asked if they visit other fashion powerhouses like New York for example their asnwers were as simple as daylight: Why would they go to New York [which still and forever remain my ultimite fashion shopping "center"] when they can have everything else in Dubai. Chanel, Mango, Cartier, you name it they've got it. Truth be told Dubai is certainly not as constricting as other Muslim countries in the Middle East and with that I patronize them. It semms that in the near future Dubai may be in line with other fashion powerhouses and this may signal shopping overahaul in Asia. Who knows? Maybe twenty years from now Asian countries can and will offer top line fashion prestige like that those of Europen power brands. Ohh! I can't wait for that to happen...but for now let us settle for goods sold in tiangges and thrift stores legally imported from abroad.haha.168 I MISS U!
oh btw...we are officially moving!hahaha.
killers!today was the second to the last session of our practice days before the examinations. wow. i can definitely feel the pressure:). i wore my ever first grishko pointe shoes and oh boi were they killers. i was so used to wearing ganor or sansha even capezio pointe shoes but this new one is really making me uncomfortable. the problem with this new shoe is that despite having toe pads it still hurts like hell. the box is too narrow for the toe pads to cover the entire half length of my foot. whow. i started memorizing the vocabulary that was at least a whole page long with a font size twelve.[haha.inalam daw bah?!]. anyway..jackie called me yesterday about the whole "ahem" thingy and honestly i was happy for her. this issue had been bugging her for quite some time and its good to know that the phone call she was anxiously waiting for will cease any unclosed doors that had been left open for a long time. on the bright side..if there is no "other open" road for the two of you, u could always try and risk a chance on bigger fields [if u know what i mean:)]haha.
anorexic bitchestoday was as ordinary as any day can get. i overslept and had to move quickly before i miss my ballet class. oh well. we did barres and everything...but the piques were a killer[ i really think i should buy new shoes. it has gone so soft in the course of what: a year?]. we did our photoshoot as a remembrance before the examinations. i got home, stripped my sweating ballet clothes and rested for a good ten minutes before the phone rang. i answered and it was japax. oh i miss that gurl! we talked and talked and talked. i won't dish out the details of our conversation but one topic definetely inspired me with this entry: anorexic bitches. we discussed our life plan and I told her that i wanted to become a stylist and mentioned something about models. come to think of it...she's right. MODELS ARE OVERATED FIASCO. im not bitchin' on them or anything, i just hate models who are so thin to the point of being anorexic. i mean helooo! welcome to the real world honey!? nobody wants to look like that. i read an article in COSMO about dieting teens and apparently some of them got the idea from models. whewww...id rather take the under the knife treatment than starve myself.
